Yuuki. Just wanted to touch base, make sure everything was good on your end. I wanted to thank you for taking the spiral off the door.
[He's had a little time to figure out what it meant. He'd definitely have done it himself first if he'd known, but he has no problem with his roommate taking the initiative on the matter. Natsuno is obviously someone used to working alone.]
[Which... doubtless means it was, and that he'd had some cause to find out.]
I see.
[Which is really code for 'excuse you you're one of my people now please check yourself before you wreck yourself' but at least he keeps his tone neutral.]
If you need anything, just let me know, all right? How'd things go with Sam and Sergeant Barnes?
[Now that's a new one. Given his extreme aversion to network posts, he's sort of... missed all this spiral-related intel and was busy with zombies and dead people the whole event, so give him a minute--]
What's happening with the spirals?
[He'll put the sociable query on the back burner for now while he does a proper threat analysis oops.]
[Natsuno is a-okay with that. Socializing is lame anyway.]
I don't know the exact details, but the person who told me to scrape it off the door said they make people go crazy. The other day, some people were rambling about how spirals are great. They even hurt themselves to make themselves look more like spirals.
[He thinks he's fairly unflappable, but it was seriously distrubing.]
[Consider it more getting to know your allies!! Come on, that's a good thing, right?
Steve considers that in silence for a moment. Given the fact that Yao seems to have instilled specific compulsions in the populace - the paranoia in Haven North being but one example - it's not much of a surprise that they could manufacture another one. But people hurting themselves because of it he's. Less than okay with.]
[Lone (were)wolves don't need to get to know anyone! They just need to look all cool and brooding. Or just brooding because he seriously fails the "cool" part.]
[Oh, sweet summer child. If Steve catches that slip, it's not obvious in his tone. He likes Yuuki and is willing to respect his privacy.]
All right.
[God, does he know this type. He's about to leave it at that, thank Natsuno for his time and move on, but-- actually this would be a good time to... do the thing. With the stuff. Cap clears his throat a little.]
Bucky and I are going to see if we can't get a soup kitchen up and running in this joint. If you were looking for something to do and [a very slight smile, almost audible in his tone] didn't mind taking orders, we could use the help.
Hey, it's Rogers. Don't know if you got the message or not, but Sergeant Barnes and I are having a get-together at the church, plenty of people brought food to share. Interested?
[He is totally playing it casual because he knows damn well Yuuki is a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs, k.]
[Natsuno saw that post, and while he's really not keen on social gatherings, this one has food. More food is always needed here, especially now that he lost some of his personal stash in the flood. But alas, he can't come because just passing by the church makes his heart race in fear.]
Pass.
[His voice is as flat as ever, even though he's really fucking pissed. Being a vampire sucks, man.]
[That... is actually pretty nice of him, even if it gives off annoying babysitter vibes. And he is kind of hungry, which begs the question - pride or food?
[He will still be there in twenty, grumping quietly on the roof. Going somewhere else would imply he actively avoids Steve, which in turn implies embarrassing things like caring.]
[Sloshing through the ankle-deep water and mud is no picnic, but he arrives almost precisely on time and pushes open the door to their shared apartment. Finding it empty, he leaves the food carefully wrapped on the table. He's never actually seen Natsuno eat, so he has no idea of his preferences but he'd picked a wide array of food. Hopefully he'll like something.
He doesn't mind that the kid's not there, Steve can just catch him at another time. It's hard to keep tabs on somebody who doesn't want tabs kept on him, and Natsuno's better than most people than covering his tracks.
But Steve's got better hearing than most people, so when there's a slight bit of movement on the roof he cocks his head off to one side, listening. It doesn't happen again, but he thinks he's probably solved the mystery and so he picks the food back up and heads outside until he's back in the calf-deep water. He glances upward, and then calls out,]
